A Specialized Tool

One trade that has been important to humanity since very early is metalsmithing. Metalsmiths have been responsible for creating important tools and instruments that make life much easier for everyone. Sometimes for a special job, the smith will have to first make a new tool so that they can finish the job. That may be forging a better hammer, altering tongs to be appropriate to the commission, or something else. As valuable as the rest of the smith’s tools might be, for the job at hand, the specialized tool would be his treasured possession. We can think of that specially made tool as God’s creating his chosen people through his faithful servant Abraham. A job needed to be accomplished (saving humanity from sin and death), and God crafted the Hebrew line so they would deliver the result he needed, eventually leading to Christ.
