In a New York Times opinion piece, former atheist David Brooks shares his story of coming to faith. He describes both coming to faith and then following Jesus as journeys. He writes, “I once likened my gradual, tedious process of coming to faith to riding on a train. You’re sipping your coffee and … then you look out the window and you realize there’s a lot of territory behind you. Gradually over the course of the journey you have left the realm of atheism. At some point you have crossed a border into a new land.” He continues to describe the ongoing journey of believing in Jesus, learning what it means to follow him, and all the new experiences encountered on the way. The life of faith is a journey every believer embarks upon (David Brooks, “I Found Faith in a Crowded Subway Car,” New York Times, December 24, 2024, https://www.nytimes.com/2024/12/24/opinion/david-brooks-journey-faith.html).
