An analogy from sports applies to the role of the sermon in worship. Just as a coach corrects and equips players during practice, preaching corrects and equips believers for life. Worship is something that should fundamentally shape our entire life, not merely an escape from reality. No one wants a coach who only tells them what they want to hear—and neither should we want that from the pulpit.
