It is said that calm waters make poor sailors. This points to the reality that people grow through hard struggles which precede success. Experience leads to wisdom, and we all must endure real challenges to better appreciate where we have been along the way. However, it’s important to remember that we get where we are in life through both our own efforts and the encouragement others give us along the way. There is a reason people naturally cheer others along at a race—it keeps the runner going! The encouragement of Jesus after his transfiguration also gave the disciples strength to continue.
