God Has Prepared Your Seat

In The Disappearing Seat, Elita struggles with confidence and in not comparing her life to others who seem to have it better. She is reminded by her friend that when we see someone else’s life and are tempted to compare it to ours, we should instead rejoice and be happy for them and remind ourselves that what we see is just “their seat” that God has prepared for them (Heather Holleman, The Disappearing Seat [Chicago: Moody Publishers, 2025]). John the Baptist doesn’t want his disciples to miss the joy of the arrival of the Bridegroom because they’re too busy falling into the trap of comparison. Instead, he wants to see them rejoice at the arrival of the Messiah.
