Our faith acts in the way of a large Roman shield. Spiritual quarrels may come in a variety of guises: temptation, devastation, doubt, and more. Faith is equipped to deal with them all. Faith takes the dangers we encounter and places them onto a power greater than ourselves. Faith is trust in God’s protection. It’s something like a scene in Mulan (directed by Tony Bancroft and Barry Cook, Walt Disney Pictures, 1998, 0:5:22–0:5:51), where Grandma finds her lucky cricket and tests its veracity by walking across a bustling street with her hand over her eyes, creating chaos and ruin all around her but remaining unscathed. This isn’t a one-to-one comparison, but it creates an image for how we can place our faith in God, allowing us to walk into turmoil unknown and reach the other side safely.
