Growing In Unity

In Ephesians 4:16, we see this body imagery used once more. This passage instructs us to see the importance of every member’s participation for the overall health and unity of the body. When an embryo grows into a body, and a body to an infant, the infant to the child, and so on, the body of that person grows in unity. It doesn’t grow one limb at a time, but each limb growing in unity for completeness of function. We might also see this as a suggestion that when one member suffers, it reactively creates suffering within the entire body. In the human body, extra blood cells are sent to an area of injury, working to promote healing as quickly as possible. This impacts every other portion of the body, however minute that impact may be. The health or illness of a member is never completely isolated.
