Hidden Danger

As a corporate body, the church benefits from the righteousness of its members. There is unity in the joint decision to seek after a common goal. As those individual members live a life steeped in righteousness, they—we—benefit by being guarded from the dangers of sinfulness. While the call to righteousness might feel like a burden, forcing us to constantly make difficult decisions, it is a blessing to us, whether it is apparent to us or not. When we were children, we often wanted things our parents would deny us—something simple, like dessert before dinner, or something more precarious, like swimming while it was thundering. While the prospect sounded enticing to us, our parents knew of hidden dangers they sought to protect us from. Sin is the same as those enticing opportunities. They lure us in much the way an angler fish lures in prey in the dark oceans, promising something beneficial while really only offering danger.
