A wedding and contracts have many similarities. Both weddings and contracts create binding commitments, but only one is marked by deep, abiding, joy. A contract emphasizes obligation while a wedding celebrates a union. Jesus insists that the kingdom resembles the latter. His illustration is important for our faith and how we apply it. Because when faith is reduced to contractual obedience, it loses its relational heart.
