At many Christian camps and retreats, participants surrender their phones at the door. What seems terrifying at first often becomes liberating. By the second day, participants describe hearing birds again, noticing the sky, and sensing God’s presence in ways they hadn’t for months. Silence creates space for us to be attentive to the Spirit. When the digital noise fades, the still, small voice of God becomes audible once more. Sometimes the first step toward renewal is simply to unplug.
