Have you ever multitasked while watching a movie? Maybe you were working on a puzzle, scrolling Pinterest, playing a game, or having a side conversation. You thought you were following along until something happened on screen, and suddenly you were completely lost. Whatever just unfolded doesn’t make sense in light of what you thought you’d seen. It becomes clear that you missed a significant piece of the story, and even as the movie wraps up, you’re confused about how the characters have arrived at the ending. In the same way, the earliest Christians believed Jesus’s descent to a humble human body was a significant part of the good news—a major plot point in the story of Christ. When we miss this, we can miss what God was doing through Christ and how we are meant to continue the story.
