Create a welcoming table scene on stage, but make it relatable to your congregation. What makes people feel more comfortable and welcome? The answer is probably not fancy plates and tablecloths. People tend to feel more comfortable when they can relax and not worry about messing something up and when they are familiar with expectations and customs. Another aspect that helps people feel comfortable is to anticipate the questions they might have and answer them before they even have to ask. Do we take shoes off before entering a home? Are children welcome? Does anyone have dietary needs? What is the plan for the event before or after we eat? Is there parking? Do I need to bring anything?
