The Maillard reaction is the reaction of heat and time upon some food. With the right amount of both, a delicious food is prepared. “The Maillard reaction is what can happen to those proteins and sugars when heat and time are added to the equation. … The first thing you need for the Maillard reaction to take place is heat. A steak left to sit on the counter for a week at room temperature will certainly undergo some chemical changes, but the Maillard won’t be one of them. … This engine is influenced by temperature, time, and pH—all things that home cooks can control” (Eric Schulze, “An Introduction to the Maillard Reaction: The Science of Browning, Aroma, and Flavor,” Serious Eats, May 13, 2023, https://www.seriouseats.com/what-is-maillard-reaction-cooking-science). Yes, we could microwave food to cook it, but it doesn’t bring out the best flavor and texture. Similarly, growing and transitioning to the life Jesus has for us allows the potential fullness to come through.
