Transformed By Love

A good modern example of a character transformed by love is Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When we first meet Tony in Iron Man, we see a man obsessed with himself, who uses others as a means to get what he wants, who has everything money can buy but has no love for anyone but himself—as seen briefly in this clip from the original Iron Man film (directed by Jon Favreau [Paramount Pictures, 2008]): https://www.imdb.com/video/vi2397372697. However, in Avengers: Endgame (directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo [Marvel Studios, 2019]), we witness a man who has been so transformed that he is able to make a final sacrifice that preserves not just the lives of those he loves but also the lives of people he’s never met—and even those who have despised and misused him in the past.
