On February 8, 2023, Zach Meerkreebs preached at the chapel service at Asbury University. He believed the sermon was a bomb, and he said so to his wife not long after. He’s reported to have texted her, “Latest stinker. I’ll be home soon” (Dale Chamberlain, “Asbury Chapel Speaker Thought He ‘Totally Whiffed’ Sermon; Believers Still Responding Weeks Later,” The Roys Report, February 21, 2023, https://julieroys.com/asbury-chapel-speaker-whiffed-sermon-believers-still-responding/). Yet, what became known as the Asbury revival began that day as students lingered, prayed, and experienced an outpouring of the Holy Spirit over the days to come. This reminds us that the power of words spoken for Christ doesn’t come from the speaker. The power comes from the Holy Spirit whenever we share our faith.
