We are to consume the Bible, not just occasionally nibbling it. We are in danger of spiritual anorexia due to our lack of eating the Word of God.
How do we “eat” God’s Word? The Bible tells us about the Old Testament scribe Ezra: “For Ezra had set his heart to study the Law of the LORD, and to do it and to teach his statutes and rules in Israel” (Ezra 7:10). First, we are to study the Scriptures. We can choose for God’s Word to be a priority in our lives. Second, we are to live God’s Word. James 1:22 tells us, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only.” Also, Jesus tells us that the wise builder is the one “who hears these words of mine and does them” (Matthew 7:24). Third, we are to share God’s Word. We can share the Scriptures by teaching them to others, discussing the Bible with them, and sharing what God is doing in our lives with those around us.
