Think of a loving, human father and his young son. There are things the son does not (and cannot) understand at this point in his young life. Things like not playing in the busy street. When the father scolds his son for disobeying his command to stay out of the street, he is disciplining his boy out of his love for him and his desire to see him flourish, not out of hate or animus toward the boy. If this is how a good earthly father acts toward his child, how much more perfectly does our heavenly Father discipline us, with our best interests in mind! Additionally, if the young boy isn’t able to grasp why his dad would discipline him for playing in the street, because he hasn’t matured in his knowledge of the dangerous world, how much more ignorant are we compared to the infinite knowledge and wisdom of the God of the universe?
