The movie Everything Is Illuminated (directed by Liev Schreiber [Warner Independent Pictures, 2005]) tells the story of an American Jew on a quest to find a Jew in Eastern Europe who helped save his grandfather from the Nazis. He hires two locals to guide him on a quest, and all of them end up personally affected by the journey. At the end of the movie, the narrator states, “I have reflected many times upon our rigid search, and it has shown me that everything is illuminated in the light of the past. It is always along the side of us. On the inside, looking out.” Today as we continue our series on our faithful God, one thing we see is that when we read the stories of the prophets, we can be encouraged in the present by how faithful God has been in the past.
