Redeemable

In the film Forrest Gump (directed by Robert Zemeckis, Paramount Pictures, 1994), Lieutenant Dan is a cold, callous US Army veteran whose legs were amputated in the war. Resentful that Forrest rescued him in the Vietnam jungle instead of leaving him there to die, Lieutenant Dan now lives a life steeped in bitterness and anger. After Forrest recruits the disgruntled vet to assist him on his shrimping boat, there is a dramatic scene in which Dan voices his anger to God, cursing his sad and humiliating fate. Not long after this, however, the grizzled war veteran has a change of heart, making peace with God. The story of Lieutenant Dan is a powerful reminder that God can redeem even the most hardened hearts and the most troubled souls. No human being is beyond saving; no creature of God is unredeemable.
