Some consequences take a long time to happen. The delay between our actions and their consequences can convince us that nothing will happen. Over the long haul, however, we will discover the consequences. It’s like a person who spends their whole life eating terrible food. They don’t notice the consequences for years—sometimes decades. Eventually, their bad eating habits catch up with them. Their metabolism slows down, or they develop a disease. In a similar way, we sometimes do not recognize the accumulation of sin in our lives. God is patient with us, but when he says that we will reap what we sow, he means it. We shouldn’t think a delay between our sinful actions and the appropriate consequences is evidence of God’s approval in our lives.
