Late night talk show host of Last Week Tonight John Oliver frequently pokes fun at corrupt institutions. In 2015 he went to so far as to start an actual televangelism ministry to show the loopholes some churches take advantage of to defraud people by promising them vague blessings and financial wealth when they give money. His “church” received thousands in donations, which he ultimately ended up donating to Doctors Without Borders.
We as believers should also be prepared to speak out against false and corrupt churches and ministries so that they are not confused with churches centered around the gospel. Churches must also take care to steward money they receive well.
