In 2015, the movie Selma was released, highlighting how the leaders of the Civil Rights movement organized the march on Selma, Alabama, for African American voting rights. The film highlights the obstacles that the movement faced in getting federal support and protection from inherently racist local governments who responded to the nonviolent protests with violence. This clip shows Dr. Martin Luther King calling on every American united against the violence and racism of the age to march with them in Selma.
Powerful things can happen when people from different background are united through a common cause. The same is true of the church. Only when we can embrace all people from all backgrounds in the name of Christ will we truly reflect God’s vision for his church and be able to reach the world with the gospel.
