The movie does an excellent job of showing their struggles during the Great Depression, Mae’s unwavering support of her husband—even when she worried about his boxing—and Jim’s commitment to and love for Mae and their family. In the movie’s climactic scene, Jim faces a fierce opponent, one who had killed opponents in the ring before. He and Mae have argued about his participation in the fight, but when the big day arrives, Jim plans to go through with it. When you see your spouse without pretending they are perfect, but you are strengthened by the grace of God to endure, you too can help build a relationship in which your spouse is the champion of your heart.
