On the idea of fishing for men, David Turner and Darrell Bock write, “This is an expression found elsewhere in the NT only in Mark 1:17. It is just possible that fishing here is an allusion to Jer 16:16, or that fishing for people implies eschatological judgment (13:47–50). In any event, this new ‘fishing’ results in life for those ‘caught’ by the message of Jesus” (David Turner and Darrell L. Bock, Matthew and Mark, Cornerstone Biblical Commentary 11[Carol Stream, IL: Tyndale House Publishers, 2005], 71).
