At the end of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (directed by Dean DeBlois, DreamWorks Animation, 2019), Hiccup and his family set out in search of his dragon Toothless, whom he’s been parted from for many years. When he finds them, there is a sense of uncertainty about whether or not Toothless will remember and accept him again. But as they draw near each other, their relationship is rekindled, and they experience the joy of their close bond once more. A clip of the reunion scene can be viewed via MovieClips: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dHXVvD4FFas. In the same way, even longtime believers can begin to feel a distance in their relationship with God. When that separation goes on for a length of time, it can make us leery of attempting to draw close to him again. We may wonder if he will accept us or reject us. But the Lord is merciful and compassionate, continually watching and waiting expectantly for our return (Psalm 103:12–14).
