The 2016 Southern Baptist Convention was historic for many reasons. One in particular revolved around the SBC presidential election. When candidates Steven Gaines and J.D. Greear were nearly tied, Greear decided to withdraw from the race in order to preserve denominational unity.
Greear’s act of humility should resonate with all of us. In order to preserve unity you must pick humility over ego. May we follow Christ’s example of laying our lives down for our brothers and sisters in whatever way he calls us.
