Throughout the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Samwise Gamgee continually demonstrates what reliability looks like. From beginning to end, he is right by Frodo’s side, doing everything he can to help him. This comes to a climax toward the end of the third film, The Return of the King (directed by Peter Jackson [New Line Cinema, 2003]). They’ve reached the final stage of their journey, but Frodo is too exhausted and corrupted to go any further. Samwise tells him, “I can’t carry it for you. But I can carry you!” He picks up Frodo to help him finish his journey. A lot of times we may be going through something that makes us feel hopeless or as though God doesn’t care, but it is important to recall that he is always faithful and will take care of his people.
