Weakness is not something our culture celebrates. Even our favorite characters from films would excel if it weren’t for their “Achilles heel,” that phrase that references the one weakness that destroyed the Trojan hero Achilles. From kryptonite for Superman to the volatile temper of Donald Duck, it seems everything would work out for these characters if only they didn’t have that one weakness. Perhaps we think that way about ourselves, too—if I didn’t have this weakness, life would be great! But through our weakness, we see Christ and receive his strength.
