Listening Before Correcting

If you’re like most people, you’ve gotten into arguments with your significant
other because you didn’t listen to them. What you do after that argument is
critical. You need to remedy the situation correctly. If you try to resolve the
problem without addressing your listening problem, then you will only compound
the issue. Imagine that your spouse asks you to pick up a few grocery items for
dinner with friends. When you forget those items, you get into a fight. As the
argument unfolds, you decide to fix it by going back to the store to pick up the
items. Unfortunately, when you return home with the items, you discover that
you’ve made another mistake. You didn’t listen to your spouse explain that they
no longer have time to make the original dish. Your insistence on correcting the
mistake only made matters worse.
