In recent years there has been a lot of talk about fake news, media bias, and how social media drives information, for better or worse. Our hearts often operate like fringe news sources that speak right to what we want to hear and our own biases. Jesus’s word is like the ultimate, unbiased, fact-checked news that gives it to us straight and is never wrong. We have to be willing to take the time (not leave it to Facebook fact checkers, our favorite Christian celebrity, or the all-knowing Google) to discern whether what our heart is telling us is actually true. It’s a wonderful and freeing thing when our hearts are aligned with Jesus’s purposes and empowered by the Holy Spirit. When that happens, we can be confident that we are living as God desires.
