Minor Characters, Vital Roles

Minor Characters, Vital Roles Sermon Illustration

What are some minor characters with important roles? We might think of Tiny Tim from Charles Dickens’s classic, A Christmas Carol. He appears a few times and delivers one memorable line but is not a central character to the story; even so, he influences the protagonist, Ebenezer Scrooge. Or we could think of Peli Motto, the Tatooine mechanic from The Mandalorian. She plays a minor role within the series but provides tremendous support for the Mandalorian. She fixes his ship, watches The Child (aka “Baby Yoda”), and provides safe friendship in a time of trouble. Who are the people in our lives who were there only for a moment, but we can see that God used them in important ways? What people and roles in the church may be considered “minor” but are extremely important to the church’s success? And which people in the world might we overlook, though God is using them to further his mission?
