More Than A Rule Book

In the sitcom According to Jim, the title character is having a disagreement with the priest. He wants the priest to forgive him and is sure that he is supposed to because he is a priest. He asks his wife, “Tell me where the rule book is.” She responds, “What rule book?” to which Jim replies, “You know, the religious one, the Bible…” (season 2, episode 8, “Father Disfigure,” aired November 19, 2002, scene begins at 12:40). We don’t want our children to see Scripture simply as a rule book of dos and don’ts. Rather, it is an interactive love story where they can encounter the living God. And encountering and knowing him in those pages is sweeter than honey.
