Part of God’s Story

In the book The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf reminds Frodo that difficult character Gollum’s life was spared for a reason: “My heart tells me that he has some part to play yet, for good or ill, before the end” (J. R. R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring [HarperCollins, 2020], 60). Our lives are a part of God’s larger story in the world. We don’t see the whole picture. We can only be faithful in our corner of God’s will.
