A recent study, published by the Royal Society of Open Science, studied everyday language on five continents and found that when someone asks for an object, service, or help, and receives it, the person says thank you only about once out of every twenty times! (Jennifer Shuessler, “Think You Always Say Thank You? Oh, Please!,” May 22, 2018, New York Times, https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/22/arts/23thank-you.html). When was the last time you went out of your way to say thank you to someone for something they did for you? When was the last time, during a particularly hard season of life, you gave thanks to God (1 Thessalonians 5:18)? A life of gratitude is shaped by God’s grace, and to get there, you need to remember to remember who God is and what God has done. But then you need to say thank you. Say thank you to God for Jesus. Do it every day. And say thank you to others when they help you. Odds are, you’re the only one that day from whom they’ll hear the words “thank you.”
