In the movie Little Miss Sunshine, two characters, Richard and Frank get in argument. When another character, Sheryl, attempts to break it up, Frank gets the last word, saying, “He started it” (https://youtu.be/Zm4IfmoYDcs). We love to find someone else to blame for our behavior, but the reality is, we cannot control other people’s actions, but we are held accountable for our own. We may be part of the most dysfunctional family since Abraham and Isaac, but that doesn’t mean we have a free pass to be a jerk because of it. God expects us to own our issues. Just as we cannot save anyone else, we cannot blame anyone else for our sin. While our family trees may show patterns of certain behaviors, we bear our own guilt and the consequences for our actions.
