Resiliency of the Human Spirit

In John 14:1–11, with the disciples distressed and disheartened by the news of Christ’s predicted departure, Jesus is encouraging them to persevere in their faith on the basis of the hope that they have in Christ—a hope grounded in the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The skateboarding documentary Rolling Away (directed by Kirk Dianda, Red Bull Media House, 2023) is a living testament to the resiliency of the human spirit. This inspiring short film documents how professional skateboarders will sacrifice everything for the hope of landing just one perfect trick. Like with Ryan Sheckler, the main skateboarder in the documentary, who puts everything on the line for the sake of hope, hope in Christ—which involves hope of victory over death—should inspire tremendous resilience in the Christian life.
