In the film Avatar (directed by James Cameron, 20th Century Fox, 2009), Jake Sully is trying to make a connection with the native people to the planet he travels to. In the natives’ previous experience with humans, they noticed that humans only want to teach and impose, not learn. One of the leaders says to Jake, “It is hard to fill a cup which is already full” (46:03–46:14). If we think we have nothing to learn, then no one can teach us anything. In the context of our discussion: If we don’t believe we have a need, then it’s impossible for us to receive help.
