Sharing Grief

In a memorial service for five slain Dallas police officers, former President George W. Bush spoke, saying, “Those of us who love Dallas and call it home have had five deaths in the family. All of us feel a sense of loss, but not equally. Your loss is unfair. We cannot explain it. We can stand beside you and share your grief.”

Sometimes providing comfort is interpreted as needing to gloss over a tragedy and to help those affected move on as soon as possible. However, as the Psalms show, comfort is found in knowing that someone stands beside you no matter what you go through. God is our ever-present Comforter and has promised to never leave or forsake us.
