Sheep’s Perspective

In a reflection on a walk in the English countryside, writer Laura Smit describes
the experience of seeing sheep. At a distance, they are “spectacularly beautiful,”
but up close they are “gray and dirty” (Laura Smit, “The Reality of Distance (and
the Pervasive Influence of C. S. Lewis on My Thinking)” [blog], November 12,
2014, http://laurasmit.com/page/2/). When viewed close up, many of our days are
spent in jobs we may find tedious, relationships that may seem stale, and the
multitude of daily tasks that may feel like they have no importance at all. Over time, though, with distance and eternal perspective, we’re able to see the ways in
which our lives do matter to God and for the world around us.
