Think of a road trip: as you travel along a road, you look for various signs to help you place your coordinates. There are mile markers, which tell you how far you’ve gone and how far you have to still go. There are signs letting you know of upcoming exits. There are signs welcoming you into a new state or informing you that you have just left a state. And when you arrive, there is a sign confirming you have reached your destination. In short, these signs show you the way. In the Gospel of John, the signs of Jesus show us something very important: that God is at work in the world through Jesus for our salvation.
