During the Holocaust, some people put their lives at risk by hiding and protecting Jews. One example is Helene Jacobs, who helped arrange false identification papers for German Jews. She was arrested and imprisoned for her part in the counterfeiting (Jonathan Blaustein, “Risking Torture and Death to Save Jews During the Holocaust,” New York Times, July 23, 2018, https://www.nytimes.com/2018/07/23/lens/holocaust-jews-rescuers.html).
