At the heart of the gospel is love. God so loved the world he sent his Son, Jesus, to die on the cross (John 3:16). Because of this love God has for us we can love others (1 John 4:7). We are called to love everyone, even our enemies (Luke 6:27). But this is a love not as our culture defines it. Our culture’s version of love is ambiguous and rooted in good feelings. When the Beatles sang “love is all you need,” their definition of love was not rooted in Jesus.
For Christians, love is defined in 1 Corinthians 13. It is patient, persevering, and courageous. It is the love that God shows his people and we show others.
