Theme Song

Bono wrote a celebration of both his wife and of God’s power in the song “Magnificent,” from the 2016 U2 album, No Line on the Horizon. Bono says, “There’s this theme running through the album of surrender and devotion and all the things I find really difficult. … All music for me is worship of one kind or another” (Stephen Ryan, “U2 Song ‘Magnificent’—Inspired by the Blessed Virgin Mary,” Mystic Post [blog], Patheos, May 12, 2016 https://www.patheos.com/blogs/mysticpost/2016/05/12/u2-song-magnificent-inspired-by-the-blessed-virgin-mary/). Perhaps one of the most telling lines from the song is this one: “I was born, I was born to sing for you. … And sing whatever song you wanted me to” (Bono and the Edge, “Magnificent”).
