The movie 127 Hours (directed by Danny Boyle, Fox Searchlight Pictures, 2010) tells the true story of Aron Ralston, an adventurous outdoorsman who was trapped alone in a canyon in Moab, Utah, for 127 agonizing hours. Ralston’s triumphant story has been an inspiration to many. It bears witness to the resilience of the human spirit. Like Paul, Ralston now (partly through this film) uses the unfortunate occasion of his traumatizing experience in Moab as an opportunity to impart hope to those who might find themselves in analogous situations. Thus, like Paul, Ralston has found a way to turn a bad thing into a good thing—a testimony that inspires transcendent hope in the midst of human tragedy.
