Don’t Look Up (directed by Adam McKay [Netflix, 2021]) tells the story of two astronomers who discover a deadly comet approaching earth. The president of the United States ignores their prediction until she’s caught in a scandal. To deflect attention, she goes public with the news and announces that she plans to use nuclear weapons to protect the planet. It’s a classic example of using the truth as a means to a political end. Christ spoke the truth in power, regardless of the consequences—as we are called to do—trusting that God is in control.
