Whole Heart

“His heart is just not in it.” That’s an accusation some sports pundits throw at players when their effort doesn’t match the intensity of the moment. One of the most famous examples of this comes from the NBA. Ben Simmons, a former number-one pick, has been accused of not caring about basketball as much as he should. There is an infamous video of Simmons practicing with what appears to be a cell phone in his pocket. The implication is that he intended to give such little effort that he knew his phone wouldn’t fall out. Lacking an unfailing love for the game is one of the quickest ways to lose fans in sports (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aGanl0bEnXc). Deuteronomy 6:1–9 calls us to go all out in our love for God. We can’t do it halfway. We have to love God with our whole heart and all our soul and strength.
