Willing and Available

The school lunch table. So much happens in cafeterias. One thing that many did and still do is trade or share lunches. Maybe you had a ham-and-cheese Lunchable but wanted to trade for someone’s bag of chips. There was a communal nature to these school lunch trades. Now, going back to the story of Jesus feeding thousands, imagine if the boy was not willing to give up his lunch? It was his lunch; what was he going to eat? His little lunch couldn’t feed all of these people. The disciples even “lunch shamed” what he had! However, the boy was available and willing to let Jesus use what he had.
