In 2015, the Barna Group published a study on pastors’ and congregations’ views on how well discipleship is going in their churches. Less than 1% of pastors believed it was going well but more than 9 in 10 congregants “definitely” or “probably” believed the church discipled well.
Though this may not apply to every church, there is clearly a gap between how successful pastors view their discipleship efforts as compared to their churchgoers. Congregations and pastors must work together in order to effectively and consistently keep discipleship a priority for the church.
