It’s important to remember that we can learn a lot from those who are younger than we are or those who might not have what is deemed valuable “expertise.” Take the game show Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader? Contestants are asked questions from elementary school textbooks as they compete to win a million dollars. The game show is surprisingly difficult (only two people have won the main prize, one of whom was a winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics). The moral of the show could be: don’t assume that young people have nothing to offer—they may have unexpected and valuable viewpoints, or knowledge that adults have long forgotten.
