The Lord’s way of escape always accompanies every temptation we face. “God is faithful … but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it” (1 Corinthians 10:13). God doesn’t find a way of escape for you; God makes the way of escape. An illustration that demonstrates “the way of escape” can be compared to the preflight safety procedures presented to all passengers. The flight attendant often announces that in case of an emergency, emergency floor lighting will indicate the path to the closest exit. Here is a picture of the lighting. In the same manner, when temptation comes to entice us to sin, God is right with us, and he provides the way for us to escape the emergency. The Greek word for provides means “make a path” (James Swanson, Dictionary of Biblical Languages with Semantic Domains: Greek New Testament [Oak Harbor: Logos Research Systems, Inc., 1997], 3846). God indicates to us the path to escape the temptation.
